The requirement for importers to comply with individual national standards is often used as a technical barrier to trade. Different standards apply in each countries making it difficult to sell a product into multiple markets.

Insertion of mutual recognition concepts under FTAs can help with uniformity, as can lobbying for a different interpretation of current rules or for a change to the rule to comply with WTO requirements.

What's Acceptable 'Here' … Isn't 'There'
A client's food product was deemed to have higher than allowable limits of a particular colour. The country of import threatened a product recall, a ban on sales, penalties and revocation of the product registration. We successfully resolved the issue in favour of the client with none of the threatened sanctions imposed.
