The word ‘Tanda’ comes from the Kaurna Aboriginal language in South Australia and means 'barter'. Barter is the simplest form of trade.

 

Tanda International Pty Ltd was established in 1996 to simplify international trading operations for clients: to bring clarity, certainty and increased profitability to their trading activities.


Who You'll Be Working With

Geoffrey Short – Managing Director

Geoff established Tanda in 1996 following a 25 year career in both government and private enterprise, dealing with legal aspects of international trade.

 

His career has included positions as Director, Legal Branch, Australian Customs Service; Senior Consultant in indirect tax with global accounting firm Touche Ross (now Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu); and Partner with international law firm, Baker & McKenzie and has enabled him to develop a comprehensive knowledge of international trade regulation along with expert government relations skills.

 

Geoff’s business and government networks, fundamental to the success of Tanda’s operations, grow through regular assignments in Asia and through his active membership of many regional and international business councils.

 

He is Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Canberra; a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors; a Governor of the American Chamber of Commerce and a member of its Trade and Government Committee; he also sits on the Executive Committee of the Australia-Vietnam Business Council and is a member of the Australia-China Business Council.

Geoff holds Bachelors degrees in Law and Economics from the Australian National University and a Master of Laws from the University of Technology, Sydney.


Jacqueline Davison – Senior Consultant

Jacqueline joined Tanda in 2005 from a highly successful career with the Australian Trade Commission which culminated with a posting as Senior Trade Commissioner and Consul General to South Eastern Europe.

 

Other senior positions previously held by Jacqueline include Trade Commissioner and Australian Consul in Sapporo, Japan and Trade Commissioner and Vice Consul General in Osaka, Japan.

These and other roles over a period of 10 years in Japan provided her with invaluable insights into international trade facilitation and government relations in the Asia-Pacific region.

 

Jacqueline is a qualified Japanese interpreter. She holds a Bachelor of Economics and Politics degree from Monash University.

 

Kate Smith – Research & Marketing Director

Kate provides market access data and trade barrier analysis, as well as detailed, issue-specific trade briefings for clients.

She is also responsible for marketing, finance and administration at Tanda.

Her career has spanned more than two decades in marketing roles in multinational corporations and small-to-medium enterprises and in the Federal public sector. Kate provides communications strategies and freelance writing services to business.
